A city hotel with the habits of a seaside resort.

On Muscat’s Shatti Al Qurum waterfront, Mandarin Oriental brings together two experiences that are often kept apart: the convenience of a city address and the slower rhythm of a beach resort. Its architecture and interiors draw on Oman’s cultural identity, with Xavier Cartron’s traveller-inspired lobby offering a particularly thoughtful expression of the country’s tradition of hospitality.

NextSpace supplied outdoor furniture and shade solutions from DEDON, Gloster, Ethimo, Umbrosa, Todus and Gandia Blasco. The multi-brand package brought specialist outdoor collections into a project developed by Eagle Hills, with NextSpace working alongside the Emaar design team and Mirage, as well as design collaborators Hilda Impey, Xavier Cartron and Silverfox.

Beyond the richly detailed interiors, the experience opens towards the horizon, changing light and sea air. Furniture and shade provide the practical connection between these two expressions of hospitality. The six-brand outdoor package belongs to the same considered environment as the hotel’s interiors, while giving the coast a character and pace of its own.
